This February 1, 2024, at the Economic, Social and Environmental Council, at the Palais d'Iéna in Paris, the 7th Miels de France 2024 competition took place to honor the 2023 vintage .
The UNAF , National Union of Family Associations, rewarded the excellence and diversity of 134 hive products : honey, gingerbread, nougats and mead. Indeed, the president of the Jury, Fabrice Prochasson and the 250 jurors rewarded 106 honeys, 8 gingerbreads, 9 nougats and 11 meads produced by French beekeepers.
The juries, composed of experienced beekeepers, taste specialists such as pastry chefs who are the best workers in France, journalists and eminent personalities, determined the prize-winning honeys in the different sections, 39 in total.
In addition, UNAF negotiated particularly competitive analysis rates with the CARI laboratory. As in previous editions, the prize list was highly publicized. The winning honeys or products received gold, silver, bronze or favorite medals. The winners were able to receive diplomas and self-adhesive labels to affix to their jars of honey or products.
The honey house, Famille Perronneau won two silver medals 🥈 in the Monofloral Honey family , one for its Linden honey and the other for its Acacia honey . It also won a bronze medal 🥉 for its Spring Flower honey in the Polyfloral Honey category.
Three award-winning honeys at the 7th Miels de France competition
Linden honey 🥈
La Miellerie's Linden honey is a finely granular creamy honey. Its color varies between off-white and dark yellow depending on its degree of crystallization and its harvest region. Its odor is delicate and its flavor is persistent, sweet, sometimes slightly bitter, without acidity. The most interesting aspect of its taste is this sensation of minty freshness revealed at the end of the mouth.
Acacia honey 🥈
Concerning Acacia honey , it is 100% natural and is characterized by its light golden color, almost transparent, of liquid consistency. This honey with gourmet notes, very appreciated by young and old, gives off a subtle floral scent and a sweet, delicately vanilla flavor. It is known to be rich in mineral salts (iron, phosphorus, calcium), to be an excellent intestinal regulator, and to soothe inflammations of the mouth and throat.
Much richer in fructose than in glucose, Acacia honey ensures a low glycemic index, which places it in the category of the least sweet honeys. This particular composition also prevents it from crystallizing, so it remains in a liquid state.
Spring Flower Honey 🥉
Finally, Spring Flower honey is the delicious result of a vast harvest made by bees on various flowers throughout the spring period (clover, hawthorn, rapeseed, apple tree, plum trees, etc.).
This 100% natural honey has a very light color, sometimes white, a fresh taste with floral notes. The very particular plant smell that this honey releases gives way to a sweet floral and fruity flavor, sometimes slightly acidic.
It is very rich in antioxidants and flavonoids due to the great diversity of flowers that compose it.
It will be effective against sore throats and insomnia, and thus helps to soothe certain vascular diseases, ulcers, or even cancers.
